Charles V Sammut was born in Malta in 1957. He graduated in physics with physical electronics from the University of Bath, UK in 1987. In 1992, he was awarded the Deryk Chesterman Medal for outstanding research leading to the PhD degree, also from Bath. Professor Sammut also holds a BA in Education from the University of Malta and is a member of the IEEE MTT, EMB and AP Societies. He is currently Head of the Physics Department and Dean of the Faculty of Science and has extensive experience in the measurement of non-ionising EMF in the environment. He has designed and directed a three-year national project to measure EMF emissions from mobile phone base stations in the Maltese islands. This study included measurement surveys at a sample of about 150 base station sites and field simulations at all the sites in operation by the end of the project. Since then he has acted as consultant to the Malta Communications Authority on EMF exposure issues and has conducted and/or supervised many field measurement surveys, including at radar and broadcasting sites. |
