Short Term Missions PDF Print E-mail

Short term scientific missions (STSMs) are an important aspect of the COST programme. They provide financial support for early stage researchers to broaden their knowledge, develop their scientific skills and initiate collaborative projects by working visits to other laboratories.

An example of such a STSM within BM0704 was a 12 day planning visit  for an intended postdoctoral fellowship for Amanda Johansson, Department of Public Health and Clinical Medicine, Umea University, Sweden hosted by Dr Martin Röösli at the Institute for Social and Preventive Medicine, Basel University, Switzerland. The research areas Idiopathic Environmental Intolerance attributed to electromagnetic fields (IEI-EMF), and health effects of electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure have been decreasing in Sweden in recent years, and extended international collaboration is important to maintain the expertise. This postdoctoral fellowship is expected to contribute to an extended collaboration between the home and the hosting departments and between Swedish and Swiss researchers. An extension of the international collaboration on the topic of IEI-EHS has long since been advocated.
